iTunes Radio – Good for Apple, Good for you?

Last week Apple announced the launch of iTunes Radio, one of the music industry’s worst kept secrets.

It is too early to analyse the full scope of the offering, but we can be sure that the main intentions are to help sell more Apple devices and more music purchases from the iTunes store. Early announcements also indicate that with iOS devices soon to be fitted into many new cars, Apple needs a radio device to link into.

Many commentators wonder if Apple is moving quickly enough and fully embracing the immediacy of peer to peer recommendation and discovery. Will iTunes Radio be in a position to compete successfully with Spotify, YouTube, Google, Soundcloud or the next innovator to market. It needs to offer far more than a platform for the user to choose there music playlist. It needs to offer user friendly design, vast selection of music and proffer ideas and suggestions without banging the drum on the ‘buy now’ button.

We will find out later this year.
