This is taken from the Vanity Fair interview with composer Hans Zimmer. After watching Hans’s lesson series for Masterclass, it puts a smile on my face to think back to watching that series and remembering Hans’s self effacing attitude. Never satisfied with the work he has done, always convinced that there is more in the tank.

Dan Reed Network to play Planet Rockstock!

Dan Reed Network will be returning to Trecco Bay to play Planet Rockstock festival at the end of this year. The festival always draws big crowds and a fantastic and last year saw sell out all tickets! Catch Dan Reed Network alongside headliners Uriah Heep, Last In Line, The Quireboys and many others!

Festival News!

Pete Way (Bassist for UFO) has announced that he is playing two special festivals this summer with his band. Pete will play Sweden Rock festival (5th-8th June) in Sölvesborg, alongside an absolutely jam packed line up of other rock music icons Kiss, Def Leppard, ZZ Top, Slayer and many, many more!

Back in the UK on 27th July Pete will also play Rock and Blues Festival in Pentrich, Derbyshire, and later on in the year Pete will be playing a standalone gig at The Tivoli in Buckley. A legendary live venue which opened as a theatre back in 1925!

Is skipping good for your wealth?

Do you have a low skip rate? 

How many people listen to entire albums in the present era of streaming via the likes of Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, etc. Elias Leight over at Rolling Stone has written an interesting article, “Think You Have a Hit? Make Sure It’s the First Song on Your Album”

The gist of the article is that sequencing matters more than ever, albums are increasingly being front loaded with the ‘best’ tracks, the singles. The skip rate indicates whether listeners make it through any 30 seconds of a song, after which a stream is included in play count statistics, and therefore royalty purposes. 

Back in the day when one’s hard earned pennies & cents were spent on a 33 1/3rpm platter, no-one recorded statistics of how many people listened to which tracks. Album bought = record label & artist happy.
